His philosophy on life is something I never would have given thought to, mainly because I don't like to over-analyze things. Being happy I something I don't really "experience" because I don't have any reason to be upset in the first place, and I think this is why people really sink or swim in situations where a tragedy is "close to home". But anyway, Roger Ebert is truly a treasure that I certainly know I wouldn't have come across with out this class.

His blog, "All the lonely people", really spoke out to me, even though I'm not alone. His writing style is almost like he's having a conversation with you, right trough the computer screen, and it's captivating, knowing someone could comfort you in whatever situation you're in just in their writing. I especially liked the video he posted at the bottom of his post, titled ,"How to be Alone". That too really spoke out to me in a way I couldn't describe to you. In all, Roger Ebert is a true gem, and his legacy will go on forever.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-9707637281452711292015-01-29T19:00:00.005-08:002015-01-29T19:00:56.241-08:00Racism in AmericaOver the past several weeks, our class has covered the full spectrum in the topic of racism, and it was truly an eye-opening adventure we took on together. I never knew about cultural appropriation, or militarization of police, or the magnitude of white privilege and just how much it affects my everyday life, for better or for worst. But two topics I really do wanna rant about are militarization of police, and white privilege. First off, militarization of police. This is just fucking insane. Excuse my French. But seriously, what is the need for military grade equipment for domestic defense. The government is just giving out all this special military grade equipment to any police station that puts in a request for it, and for what reason? I couldn't tell you. But this equipment isn't just going to the local police, it's also going to the SWAT teams, and let me tell you, there is quite an abundance of them. For example, the Dallas Independent School District has their own SWAT team. But for what? What terrible things happen in Texas? Given there are many schools in this district, I believe that the local police force would be enough to suffice.

Also, the magnitude of equipment they are given is absolutely mind blowing. After watching one show during class and learning that a small Georgia town had received a TANK, just because they thought they'd need one. I had to laugh at that because there is absolutely no need for it. i understand times aren't like they used to be, and that drug cartels are prevalent or whatever, but seriously, this is just uncalled for. Also, during the one "Nightly Show" episode we watched during class, Bill Burr (I think he was the one to bring this up) said something that still saddens me, and this was that whenever protests seem to breakout, the police are always there to stop it, as if protesting is illegal now or something. Not only do they show up, but they SHOW UP, guns blazing, and even tanks blazing depending on where you're from.

Next, I'd like to get into white privilege. It really makes me mad how whenever a person of color isn't as successful as they'd like to be, they just blame it on white privilege. Now, not all of them do this, but people at Northern have told me, "oh, you're only passing this class with an A because you're white, the teacher likes you because you're white." Let me first define this term in order to make it easier to give my opinion on. According to this website "https://www.mtholyoke.edu/org/wsar/intro.htm", white privilege is a set of advantages and/or immunities that white people benefit from beyond those common to all others, With this being said, I really couldn't tell you if my life differs any different from any colored persons, because whether I am actually receiving these privileges without even noticing it, I haven't had any experiences where I felt like I wasn't being treated as an unequal, so I couldn't tell you.

Wrapping up on the white privilege topic, I'd just like to say that these so called "advantages or immunities" aren't so significant that they can help us to end up as self-made millionaires. No. Anyone could end up a self-made man or woman if they have ambition and a goal to reach. No matter your background, race, color, ethnicity, gender, non-gender, whatever, I truly believe everyone on this Earth is created equal. The goals you make and the path you choose in life will make or break you in today's society, "advantages and privileges" aside.
So far, our video is coming along very smoothly. We have the basic idea of what we want to do, and we really want to improv the rest as we go. We've arranged when we will shoot the video, and how long it will, be, but I don't wanna give any hints at our plot yet, surprises are always fun. coming up with a plot was a bit of a challenge, but it was extremely necessary, as this is the crux of our progress this week. We've also arranged the attire of our characters in the "movie", and I use the term loosely as we don't know if it is going to be considered a long video or a short movie. But as of our progress this week, I say we, as a group have accomplished quite a bit.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-13917418409874968902014-10-06T13:35:00.000-07:002014-10-06T13:35:03.441-07:00Can We Save The Earth By Being Nice?I recently watched Jeremy Rifkens's Empathic Civilization, and in this video, he states that if we don't come together as one whole; one society, "won't make it". Now, as a realist, this is totally and utterly ideal and Utopian, even though its nice to imagine. If we could extend our empathic sociability, I think we could do it by finding a common enemy among all of us, for example global warming, and taking our hatred in this enemy, and make it bring us all closer together. Our most pressing issue right now is Isis, it's not really arguable, literally everyone's talking about it. This issue actually has a common foreground with just about anyone, and you could go up to a complete stranger and have a full-length conversation with them about it and not know a thing about that person. Can we extend empathy to the entire human race? Let me pose a more realistic question, could we extend our empathy to the entire continent? It is totally and utterly impossible to imagine empathizing with the entire human race, and reading to myself sounds almost Utopian. Rifken mentions in his video that that "If we can't imagine doing this, it may already be too late." Well, we have never empathized with one another as a whole, not once, not ever, in the thousands of years we have existed as human beings, so I would assume that this time period would be any different, and wouldn't cause us to annihilate each other. There will always be some form of disagreement, and therefore, global empathy is merely an ideal concept.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-24967078281774292522014-09-29T07:13:00.002-07:002014-09-29T07:13:55.349-07:00Passion Project Update #1In the past 2 weeks, I haven't accomplished much in the past 2 weeks, but I did learn how to throw cards, which will make the content of our video more interesting. I'm not too sure when I will be able to use this again in the real world, but it's a fun skill to have. I didn't see any pattern in what I did, but I got the hang of it fairly quickly, and now I think I should figure out what I will be doing in the video.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-84410844247316878622014-03-24T05:05:00.000-07:002014-03-24T05:05:42.071-07:00Passion Project UpdateSo far, my project is coming along very well. I've been tapping into the deep web at home because the Tor browser on the Macs doesn't work for some odd reason, maybe the school's firewall, I really don't know. I've started a presentation on Google docs, it's not done of course, but I started one. I've gone deep into the deep web, little bit of a paradox, but I've seen some weird things on there, so i'm sure it'll make for an interesting presentation. My only obstacle was not being able to access the deep web at school. I still need to finish my presentation and I need to go even deeper into the deep web. Other than that, I don't anticipate any other obstacles.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-24830986525409889162013-11-15T05:06:00.000-08:002013-11-15T05:06:06.774-08:00Passion Project AnalysisSo far, Me and Ashwin have accomplished a big part of what we plan to complete by January. we plan on making a music video, and so far we have made the song and have begun to plan out the video and where we will shoot it and when. The only thing that me and Ashwin have to accomplish is making the video and editing the video clips together, which shouldn't be too hard considering I have edited things before. The only obstacles I can think of are that we would have weather issues with shooting the video and that we would have a little difficulty editing the video and figuring out which video clips go where and how to put them together. Other than that, Ashwin and I are pretty much good to go.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-84678263764429784752013-11-14T04:50:00.000-08:002013-11-14T04:50:17.306-08:00Passion Project Updates & ReflectionsAt this point, I am extremely satisfied with what I have accomplished in these first weeks of the passion project. Ashwin and I have written an entire song, and we are now in the process of planning a music video. We have about 8 weeks left in the passion project and I am very confident that me and Ashwin will be able to complete our project and have time to review it and edit it if need be. The only two things that me and Ashwin need ti do, are shoot the video with the instrumental of the music, and edit it so that the sound and Ashwins's voice are clearer. the only obstacles that I can think of are editing the actual video. Shooting it will be no problem, its just putting the clips together. But overall, I am very confident in what I have accomplished with my project.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-69412943460476851692013-10-27T10:27:00.001-07:002013-10-27T10:27:35.117-07:00OutliersOutliers. They're everywhere you look. Seriously. Maybe you don't know it yet. But you can be an outlier yourself. It's amazing. But one outlier that stands out in my mind, is Ke$ha. Now, before the tomatoes come flying at me, let me explain myself. Well first off, she has an IQ of over 140, which is borderline genius. When I read this I almost fell out of my chair, considering what kind of reputation Ke$ha has in Hollywood: #hoe. But seriously, that's a very high IQ, and to put it in perspective, Albert Einstein's IQ was estimated to be hanging out in the 160 range. Up next, she scored a 1500 on her SAT in high school, which is a hair short of perfect, considering that back then, a perfect score was 1600. Incredible. I honestly thought that all of this media buzz about Ke$ha being smart was just some tabloid bull crap, but as I read further into it, my jaw hit the floor. And last, but certainly not least, her mother was a famous singer like herself. Pebe Sebert. Whether you realize it or not, this factor was a HUGE advantage for Ke$ha growing up, because whenever her mother brought her to the recording studio, her mother always encouraged her to sing, and after she found out she could actually sing, it took off from there. Like I said, Ke$ha isn't one to have a reputation for being a genius, but at only proves my statement. Outliers are everywhere you look, they may not have equal opportunity, like Chris Langan, who is said to have an IQ of 210, but works as a bouncer at a bar. You never know just how successful ou can be until you apply yourself, and maybe then, you will realize that you were an outlier.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-25233165793819273362013-05-14T11:22:00.000-07:002013-05-14T11:22:00.257-07:00Joyas VoladorasThats a funny name up there isnt it? /|\ I think it is. Anyway, This essay had so much meaning to it in ways that were so subtle, if you didnt pay attention, you wouldnt have noticed the subliminal messages hidden inside the words of this essay. The meaning I took away from it was that it doesnt matter how big your heart is, or how much you try to barricade it from the rest of the world. If something strikes you the right way, it could either war your heart like, "the sweet apple berath of a child" or it could break your hert like , "a cat with a broken spine dragging itself into the forest to die." This essay made me rethink life, not neccesarily in a positive way, but not in a bad way, I just kind of thought about life a little more with each paragraph of this essay. My favorite line was, "each heart made silent, a brilliant music stilled." It was so inspiring to me and held so much meaning that I actually went home and thought about it, which I never normally do with anything that deep and meaningful. This essay had realy made me rethink what I have done with my life so far and what is in the future. And I realized that my life will be full of love and loss, and through it all, I will have to keep on moving.
They consist of only true advice that could really help you in your life when you get shipped out of High School and even college. Though, there were only two pieces of advice that really struck me as interesting. one of those pieces of advise was, "Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself." Another really useful piece of advice was, "Enjoy your body, use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own." The only piece of advice that I would add to this song is, don't let people bring you down;take them down with you if you let them get to you. This song is truly motivational in every single way and it can teach everyone who listens to it a very important life lesson, whether you realize it or notAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-56282726823926939182013-05-06T11:27:00.002-07:002013-05-06T11:27:44.708-07:00Something Worth Learning Now I know that there are useless pieces of knowledge, eagerly waiting for someone to learn their secrets and spread them around the community, but is it worth it? Is it worth taking up space;wasting your time for something that you will forget in the next hour or so? Not even a little bit. Now, I'm not going to give you factual information on something that I find worth learning about, I'm not going to ramble on about something amazing that I discovered the other day, no. I'm going to tell you a life lesson, not one that you've all heard like, "don't do drugs," or something cliche like, "life is unfair." I'm going to give you, "something worth learning."
It's plain and simple really. Life is what you make of it. Think about it for a second, it could blow your mind, or maybe not, maybe, you've already thought about that and you're thinking right now, "Oh my god, here we go again." It really is something worth learning because, if you are a person veering off the good path in life, if you remember that very simple life lesson, it could save you from a life of drugs, alcohol, and all those terrible things.
I told you it wasn't cliche, or stupid and corny, it can really help you. If you're in a bad spot in your life an you want to get yourself out of it, this statement pops into your mind and can possibly save your life from a long road of misery and despair. And best of all Mrs. Mystrena, it's something actually worth learning. Whether people actually tell it to you hands on, or indirectly, its a life saving life lesson that everyone should know and love.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-15685986748821977772013-03-18T11:25:00.002-07:002013-03-18T11:25:13.161-07:00Wasteland DocumentaryThe most memorable part of the whole movie was when Vik revealed the final product of the project with all of the garbage included, and watching their reaction of seeing the beautiful artwork that they were portrayed in. Also, how much they benefited from Vik's work was also another memorable part of the movie. I learnd just how lucky I am in life and how well off I am in society and how well of an education I have. I will take away with me that I really should appreciate the smaller things in life, because once their gone, their gone. To have your boring, monotonous job turned into something that means so much more than your job must be one of the greatest things to see, especially when your job is as terrible as the jobs at the Jardim Gramacho Landfill. If i were the subject of Vik's artwork, I would feel on top of the world because that artwork would make me famous and it would sort of attract me more to the world of art. I think that there are aspects of my life that would lend themselves to this type of art.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-22127511074269073472013-03-12T10:57:00.001-07:002013-03-12T10:57:12.738-07:00Delicate
Heres my picture for delicate, I would have put more, but pretty much everything is bulletproof in my house haha....(sniffle).......here you go.....

BREAKING NEWS

Faye Mesich is the local, "champion of the hills", as some of the residents call her. She is the only skiier inher town and the only one to ever attempt the steepest and largest hill in their neighborhood, she failed terribly. She went approximately 5 feet before she tumbled down the rest of the enormus hill, named the Goliath, due to its massive size and steepness of 89.9 degrees and 500ft tall. It took her an hour to reach the bottom, and when she did, she brought an avalanche of not only snow, but an avalanche of cheers from her ffiends that decided to wait at the bottom and not cheer her on. She went home that day with only a small bruise, and a shattered spirit, but hopefully she continues to do what she does best, and tumble down Goliath once more.

I learned that I am a very strong person when it comes to emotional things. Also, I learned that in the real world, it is pretty hard just to make ends meet, but if you want to be more successful than just the bare minimum, then you need to work your a&% of out there. I learned that life is like a river, if you try to fight the river, you will drown, but if you go with the flow, then the river will push you downstream. Of all of the many things about life, the world, and myself, these are the most important out of all of them by far.
I am against New Years Resolutions to be honest with you, to me they just seem pointless. Why make a New Years Resolution if in 2 or 3 weeks, you will forget what you wanted to resolve? Well, to some people, a New Years Resolution is a great thing, but you couldn't describe it in a way that would make it seem like it was meaningful. But to all of those people that like New Years REsolutions, keep on makin' 'em!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890770653178823525.post-43842252375294292682012-12-19T11:17:00.002-08:002012-12-19T11:29:46.761-08:00The First Amendment The First Amendment covers many different subjects like Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Protests, but the only subject that confuses me a little is Freedom of Religion. Why do people still look down on certain religions if people are legally allowed to believe in what they want to believe? Why doesn't the government ban certain religions if they could be potentially harmful, sort of like the way they were in the Commonwealth vs. Twitchell court case? And one last question that I've had since we have started talking about Freedom of Religion, are people allowed to make their own religion if thousands (or many other people) begin to follow that specific religion? Well, I guess I'm gonna find out sooner or later.
Creating your religion always confused me, whether you could make your own religion or not was kind of fuzzy, bit that has been cleared up. Apparently, you can believe whatever you want to believe as long as its legal and doesn't involve sacrifice or death or anything out of the ordinary. To be completely honest, I find this to be a good thing because if people weren't allowed to believe in what they want to believe in, then our Freedom of Religion section of the First Amendment is pretty much worthless. now we move onto religious discrimination.I don't really think there is a solid answer for this question, but more of the persons views both religiously and in general. If people find the certain religion to be either out of the ordinary (to them of course) then they will discriminate against that religion. And my final question of this topic, can the government ban a religion if it is harmful. Apparently, they can ban a religion even if it isn't harmful, or at least they are trying to ban them. I found an article that the NYC gov't is trying to ban religious meetings in churches and in schools across New York. I really don't know if they will ban these meetings or not, but in my honest opinion, I think that they don't have the right to ban such a thing across such a wide range of area in the first place.
The First Ammendment covers many different subjects in a simple 45 word sentence. As it is very important to our freedom as a whole, it is also very confusing on its limits and boundaries. Though, all of my questions were answered, it still seems a little bit confusing to me. Maybe in the future I will understand all of the First Ammendments secrets and tiny loopholes, but for now, I'll never know.
My opinion on the grading system, both letter grades and number grades based out of the 100 point scale, is that we should change it to advanced proficient, proficient, and below proficient, only because, it won't lower children's self esteem if they do poorly on a test, they won't think less of themselves and do poorly on other school work. I do not think that the grading system accurately represents our learning and knowledge because numbers and letters, shouldn't ,and don't, determine your intellegence. We should use a mix of the current grading system, and the standards based grading system because they are both useful, and we should incorperate them both into grading today. Grading can determine our future, so we might as well make the grading system used today fair.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07128077371033597629noreply@blogger.com0
